Opening Day 2011: Festival of the Honey Bee

We will open our 2011 season on May 7th with a Honey Bee Festival honoring the beloved bee that pollinates our vegetables and fruits, provides amazing medicine, and brings sweetness and beauty into our lives!

Beekeepers, bakers, gardeners, artists, and educators will join us that day with environmentally friendly products and presentations.

Children’s crafts, a puppet show, live music and storytelling will entertain the little ones throughout the day.  Here is the schedule:

9am  PA 2011 Honey Princess arrives at the market, music by Sarkisaan & Sheen

10am Honey Princess will give a talk

10:30 Talk about Beekeeping with demonstration by Dave Baues

11am Puppet Show

12pm Talk about the health benefits of honey by Rosemary Baues

Also part of the festival:

Starting on at 7:30pm on May 6th and running throughout the week, the Colonial Theatre will show “Queen of the Sun,” a powerful and magical documentary about honey bees.  On Saturday at 2pm, there will be a special screening followed by a Q&A session with Gunther Hauk, co-founder of Spikenard Farm, a biodynamic and organic honey bee sanctuary.
