Many of the market shoppers may also have been loyal customers of Cheese!, Phoenixville’s very own artisinal cheese shop.  Sadly, but also understandably, Cheese! is closing its doors, leaving a void that will be hard to fill.  Fortunately, we are pleased to welcome local goat cheese maker Pete Demchur of Shellbark Hollow Farms to the Market this week!  You can read about Pete and many several of our other farmers in the August edition of Main Line Life.  August is traditionally the dining issue of Main Line Life, and this year they decided to make local food their emphasis.  I am happy to say that most of the farmers in the article are right here at the Phoenixville Market!  You can read the feature article here.

In celebration of the Shellbark Hollow Farm’s joining the market, we have chosen a beet and goat cheese salad as the recipe of the week.  How lucky we are to have such wonderful farmers bring their delicious food to Phoenixville!

Music this week is by local singer songwriter Joe Miralles. You can read about Joe on our website.

We encourage you to BYOB – bring your own bag — and if you do, you can enter a raffle to win Market Dollars that you can spend with any vendor. Starting this Saturday, each week that you BYOB to the market, stop by the market table and fill out a raffle. Each week we will draw a winner and hand over the market money! Click here to watch a short slide show on how NOT using plastic bags can make a huge difference.

And, click here to watch The Story of Stuff — which is great to watch with your kids. “The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.”
