She was always intrigued by the beautiful large white flowers that grow on the moonflower vine. When these flowers open for the night, they appear to glow in the moonlight with an iridescent quality that brings the night world alive. One doesn’t expect to find flowers blooming so vibrantly at night.
This process mirrors her nightly experience in her studio. It too blooms throughout the evening hours where her mind is opened and she is free to explore and create the endless possibilities of her work. Her world is transformed and she finda unexpected beauty through her creations. Like the moonflower, this special time fades with the morning light only to be replaced again the following evening.

In 2005 a group of Chester County, Pennsylvania residents came together around our common concern for the plight of African AIDS victims. Our group’s mission is to advocate for and assist those affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa, especially women and children (infected, non-infected, or orphaned). We seek to increase public awareness of the pandemic and to raise funds to support direct services.

HomeAID for Africa is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that raises money through the creation and sale of finely crafted items made by our members, fundraising events, and donations.

We dye silk scarves, create felted products and make jewelry, note cards, and other items. Whether your gifts are artistic or otherwise, we would love for you to join us!

The money HomeAID for Africa raises goes directly to those who need it. We are an entirely volunteer organization with no administrative overhead. The funds provide:

*Care, food, and clothing for orphans, vulnerable children and ill adults

*Access to medical treatment, which includes anti-retroviral medications and drugs to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, as well as treatment for other illnesses

*School fees and school supplies for orphans

*Women’s empowerment/income generating projects such as tailoring or animal husbandry in order to promote self-sustainability

*Nursing scholarships to help alleviate the extreme shortage of trained medical personnel

*Education about prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS

Gwen Gerhart is a self-taught jewelry artisan or designer. Her inspirations are through precious gemstone colors and shapes found in nature. She pours these inspirations into her jewelry designs. She creates her gemstone jewelry with only the finest hand selected semi-precious, precious stones, pearl, leather and sterling silver. She loves to travel and is always looking for unique materials to use in her jewelry. Gwen has a fashion degree from FIT and spent many years working and living in New York City as a stylist. It was those years as a stylist where she found her passion for jewelry. She started creating pieces for herself and soon was being commissioned to design one of kind pieces for her clients. After many exciting years in New York City she returned to Pennsylvania where she resides with her family in Coopersburg.

In addition to selected Saturdays at the Market, her jewelry can be found at The Copper Partridge, in Skippack. Her designs have won awards at judged shows.
